System Check : 4870 X2

The Sapphire comes with an 8 pin and a 6 pin adapter.

Long term, no reason not to use an adapter. Power capacity wise there is no difference from 8 to 6 pin. Every adapter adds some resistance and a little voltage drop. But its quite safe.

Seasonic sent me 2 x 6pin to 8 pin adaptors after I asked for a new modular lead which they explained they do not even make. If itted a 4870x2 to a pc the other day and that was a coolermaster 620w psu and it works fine, but it did have a 8pin and a 6pin modular cable in the box. I was thinking surely if a £59 psu can handle it mine should be able too or are Seasonic just crap power supplies?

Hiper's dont have much of a fan club on these boards, plus the OCZ is quality through and through (I have one, silent and recommended).

The Hiper's had one problematic model. The Type R 580W, i have read these forums for a long time, and i know exactly what the Hiper issue is that you speak of. These new Hiper's are a completely different build and TOP quality, up there with Corsair and PC P and C. OCZ are not great, far from it, they are well down the pecking order actually.

Of course individual experiences can differ, but that doesn't make OCZ top quality, becuase they are not, they're no more than ok.

When looking at components you cannot just tar all the products with one brush. These new Hiper's are superb and great value, and much better built than Gamesteam's, and also offer higher wattage, AND are certified 4870x2 CF, and it's fair to assume they could SLI GTX 280 too.

Seasonic have an excellent repuatation, they build the HX Corsair range, and PC Power and Cooling PSU's.

HX-520, HX-620, TX-650, VX-450 – Seasonic
HX-1000, TX-750, VX-550 – Channel Well

Seasonic make the PCP&C Silencers, Wintact make the Turbo Cools. To be fair PCP&C don't use base models from others, they supply the tooling and have units assembled to their own specification. Seasonic also make some of the better Antec units.
