Hi,

A colleague at work has been talking about building a gaming computer with around a £1,200 budget for just the tower only with no operating system. He will buy the keyboard, monitor etc later.

So far we have put the below together. As far as the case is concerned keeping the cost down there is fine as it's not being built to light up or make fancy in anyway.

The main concern we have is if this motherboard will be fine for this setup.

All comments and opinions welcomed.

Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II 4096MB Graphics Card £399.95
Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £259.99
Samsung 250GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TD250BW) £149.99
Asus P8Z77-M Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
Corsair 2013 Edition Gamer Series GS 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020063-UK) £64.99
TeamGroup Elite 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED316GM1600HC11DC01) £59.99
Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler £53.99
Toshiba (7K1000.D) 500GB SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache - OEM (DT01ACA050) £47.99
BitFenix Merc Alpha Gaming Case - Black £29.99

Total : £1,170.96

Yep, all is fine although to save some cash you could go with an i5 3570k instead, because the i7 gives minimal performance gain in games, as well as 8GB of RAM instead of 16GB. A 7950 has better performance for the price than the GTX 670 iirc, and you may want to look at getting the Pro version of the Samsung 840. The case is also a bit lacking for the budget specified. :)

For gaming the 3570k is the one to go for , the 3770k has hyperethreading which is not utilized.

I would take the 7970 over the 670 as its faster.

Personally i would get a better case .

You only need 8 gb ram for gaming.
