Hi,

I'm just about to take the plunge and order a new rig. Listed below are the components I think I have come to rest on.

Please could you advise me before I buy that all these components are compatible and/or if there are any known issues or quirks etc that I may need to know about with this kit. I also don't intend to overclock so this will remain at stock levels.

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-128-IN

Tagan TG700-U25 700W ATX2.0 Dual Engine Silent SLi Compliant Silent PSU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-014-TG
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-044-GW

Will need to decide on a case also. Just air coolong so want 120mm fans - any good cases that will fit this lot and have room for expansion with good cooling. I like the look of the Akasa Eclipse - any good?

Thanks in advance for your advice and help.

Stuart

Looks good, though you could easily get away with a smaller PSU. My choice would be the 520W Corsair.

The Raptor is a waste of money tbh. Consider swapping both those drives for a 320GB Seagate wth 16MB cache.

As for cases, the Antec P180 and Antec Nine Hundred are both very nice.

Also, look at the Sycthe Ninja HSF. It's passive/silent at stock, so teamed with a Corsair PSU and Antec P180, your machine would be pretty much silent.

I'd take an Eclipse over a P180 any day of the week. Conbine the Eclipse with some quiet fans and you've got a silent, cool-running rig. :)

I agree with masslac on the PSU, HDD, and Heatsink. You might also be interested in the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. It's not as good as the Ninja but it's pretty close and it's cheaper.

I will now take a good look at the Eclipse case, something which TBH until now I had not done. :)

Edit - I still loathe the aesthetics.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have taken it all on board and have decided to add the Nija to the purchase, swap the HD as you have suggested and I have now fallen for the P180 case (black mind!) but I do not like the Nine Hundred at all, not my style. I like subtle and not into the whole side window thing - PSU I'm undecided but have taken your suggestion and will ponder some more - is the Tagan noisey then as I do want the rig to be as quiet as poss.

Thanks once again, you've helped put my mind at rest and have stopped me buying the raptor so saved me a few quid!

Tagans are really nice units (I have a 580W modular one myself), though the Corsairs ARE the best PSUs on the market at the moment. Both are very quiet.

Corsair ftmfw atm imho tbh
