Hi, just wondering if anyone can diagnose a problem if I give a few symptoms.

Basically when my system is left idle for say an hour or more, when I return to it it has frozen, no movement on mouse or response from keyboard.
Then, if I hit reset, or turn power off and boot up again it will turn on and only go through the first bios screen where it detects components etc (all seems to be detected OK, I think), it will then just sit at a black screen.
If I leave it for 5-10 min it will then boot properly (albeit via windows did not shut down properly screen).

To me this seems as if something is overheating, but I don't know what, hard drive perhaps?

Coincidently, I have an Akasa fan control unit which has developed a fault around the same time as this started to happen. You can select the colour of the screen and about half of the colour options flicker violently, but the other half are fine. A bit of a bummer as my fav colour now flickers. The actual fans do not seem to be affected though and the intake fan at the front is mobo PWM controlled, it's just 3 small exhaust fans at the rear controlled by the Akasa.

Sorry it's such a long one, just wanted to give as much info as poss.

Thanks in advance for any help.

it could be power related, is it possible you can borrow a psu from a mate and find out by leaving it running for a hour idle to see if its that solves it.

Is anything overclocked at all in the system and have you had any other problems apart from the fan controller panel flickering and the system hanging.

ps if you believe its overheating open it up and check there isnt loads of dust kicking about in any fans. also feel the heatsinks on the graphics card and cpu.

Hi,

No overclocks and I'm not long after replacing the mobo and I gave all the fans a clean inc the cooler when I did the swap out, but I'll take another look. Haven't had any other probs other than those mentioned above.

I have a friend who is a cloud engineer, so I'll try an see if he has one I can test with.

Cheers for your help.
