System crash - windows failing to load

Just turned on the computer after work, everything loaded as normal, within a minute explorer crashed and windows blue screened (win 10 home 64-bit).

System restarted but windows fails to load, just get a blinking cursor on screen.

Can boot into windows by hitting f8 on startup and selecting the drive, if I restart the machine the same error happens.

Also getting an AE qcode on the mother board (Asus maximus hero 8).

Any ideas guys?

Looks like the bios has forgotten the boot drive. Go into bios and set the correct drive.

Seems a windows update may have triggered secure boot in the bios, it had locked out the boot options / order.

Changed the setting, restarted, bingo it was back to normal.


Seems to be a known issue with Windows 8/8.1/10 and Asus boards (could be others, not sure though).
