System fan not showing RPM in BIOS

I have this case and motherboard:

NZXT Tempest 410 http://www.nzxt.com/new/products/crafted_series/tempest_410 (from OC, but no longer listed)

MSI Z77A-G43 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-202-MS

I've just finished building this up and the BIOS loads fine (not yet installed OS). One thing though is that only one of my case fans (as supplied with the case) is showing as running in the BIOS.

I have things wired like this:

CPU fan to CPUFAN header on MB (RPM showing fine and can be controlled through the BIOS)
Rear case fan to SYSFAN1 on MB (RPM showing fine and can be controlled through the BIOS)
Front case fan to SYSFAN2 on MB (RPM showing 0) although running fine but is either on or off it seems.

Reading around a bit and examining the cables, it seems that the front case fan is supplied with a cable that only contains two physical pieces of copper, whereas the rear case fan comes with a cable that has 3 physical copper pieces.

What do I need to do to get the front case fan detected by the BIOS? Buy a new replacement cable with three physical bits of copper?

Thanks!

A new fan by the sound of it. If its a two wire fan then its unlikely that you'll be able to do anything with it to get a tach signal off it, unless the fan has the capability and just has the tach wire snipped at the PCB.

Thanks for the reply.

The case fan is built in to the case in a rather nifty way - you can pull it off the front without having to unplug any wires. There are special connectors on the case and when the fan is pushed in place it makes contact. On the other side of these connectors is a standard 3 pin male connecter, in to which the current cable is plugged, which then goes off to the MB - so I think the fan is capable and all I need to do is to get a cable that will carry three copper wires rather than the current two.

Going to order one and see....
