System File Checker (SFC.exe)

I'm having a problem with all my exe's starting with 'open with'. I have tried the exefix but that did not work. Now I want to use SFC to replace or add system files that have been deleted but SFC will only open with 'open with'. Although I went and located through the folders and managed to run it that way, but all it does is quickly bring up the cmod as if it is obviously doing something and as quickly as cmod came it went and then nothing after that. Is that how it is supposed to work?

I don't have an XP machine to hand and can't quite remember the full details but if you locate Program Access and Defaults (or similar) in the Control Panel, try setting it to default Microsoft. This will reset all of file associations (like images opening with Picture and Fax Viewer and audio files opening with Media Player etc)
