My son is looking for a new desktop but must be able to play Gary mod / Mine craft and some of the newish games on Steam, I have a Win 7 licence so thats not an issue.
Seen this Intel i3 Ivy Raid" Intel Core i3 3220 Ivybridge Dual Core Gaming System.

Would this be okay or would i need to upgrade it.

Basically looking to spend £400 but could go to £450

Any suggestions on this with upgraded components or another system all together?

Thanks

Tim

Hi,

You obviously want a pre-build so the suggestions of build it yourself are not too applicable here.

The Ivy raid system is a solid buy. I would personally make the following ammendments on the drop down options:

- Upgrade the RAM to 8GB
- Upgrade the GFX to Nvidia GTX 650Ti 1GB
- Upgrade the HDD to a 1TB

So you now have double the memory and Hard drive space and a considerably faster graphics card which can play newer games more easily.

With these options the system comes to £441.00 inc VAT, so below your £450 budget.

Obviously it doesn't come with windows but you mentioned above that you already have a copy of Windows 7 :) Just make sure it is a 64 bit copy to take full advantage of the memory upgrades.

This is a really good recommendation but there is an alternative.

We have an AMD based version of this system and whilst this will be slightly slower for non-gaming operations, if you went for this you could afford to make the following upgrades:
- Upgrade the RAM to 8GB
- Upgrade the HDD to a 1TB
- Upgrade the GFX to Nvidia GTX 650Ti Boost 2GB

The graphics card is the key and the newer Boost 2GB version of the 650Ti is noticeably quicker than the non-boost 1GB
