From the spec and thread mentioned above i am having trouble now with the system just locking up no BSOD's or anything the whole thing just locks up without explanation it happens on the internet or when using windows update but only had it fulling tested for a coupld of days so my results are limited.

Also i dont know wther it is related but the background textures flicker when playing crysis i am using Catalyst 9.4 drivers is this a known issue?

Any ideas what could be causing this?

System freezes are normally RAM related but could be some other hardware. Id try loading in to safe mode with networking and going on the internet for a bit to see if it happens.

Seeing as you are getting graphics problems as well the new driver would be a logical step to curing the problem.

Is the temp ok on the graphics card? seeing its using a better cooler it should be ok, but just have a look. I had a 4870 which ran too hot I get artifacts and lockups (Just a thought).

The card is running about 65-70 degrees idle with auto fan control at 27% should I set the fan speed to manual around 40% would this help?

Yes, I would try 40%-50% or even higher just to rule out its not the graphics card, so basically up the fan speed and do some gaming and see if it still crashes.

Is you system Overclocked?

Ok he has upped the graphics fan and problems are still occuring!

He told me that yesturday the computer did the following:

Skipping audio when streaming and visuals locked up

Random system resets

What could this be do you reckon it seems weird wouldnt a BSOD occur?

Right just spoken to my friend and he says that the system freezes after about 3 minutes of being on so he cant run the tests probably.

He said he hears a whistling noise a high pitched one and then the noise goes and thats when the system freezes. Isn't that characteristic of ram?

I have a feeling that it is the ram causing the problem.

So i told him to try different combinations of memory in each of his ram slots and see if that is ok and run memtest on each.

Alright guys,

Ok my friend has run memtest and everything worked fine it crashed the first time but no errors were posted. But the second time it was run with the side panal off it didnt crash.

He has played some games for 2 hours and no crash but with the side off of the computer.

Could it be the graphics card crashing becuase it is overheating is it common in this card?

Your help would be so much apreciated!

If anything I would have thought the side panel being off would cause the case to warm up slightly due to lack of airflow, but the only thing I can think of ATM is something touching the sidepanel causing it to short. But if it shorted it would have rebooted instantly, not just freeze.

Well I sure am stumped :|

Reyt i'm not sure but it's worth the post. I had the same problem as you ages ago with my old rig, the problem was a faulty RAM slot on the mobo' I had to buy 1x 2GB. so it would still be the same except i'd have 1 slot empty. Crackly audio. crashes, everything you have described, start by opening your comp. take one of your sticks out leaving one in, try it. it crashes then you'll know it's that one. Obviously with you it's 4GB. so have fun :P

Hello all,

Right ok it seems whenever you put the graphics card under stress it just freezes the computer and sometimes gives a bluescreen.

Isn't there a log in event manager that reports all the errors that happen on a computer? I just cant work out whether it is ram or graphics that is causing the problem as it seemed to complete memtest without any errors.

Help is needed otherwise i am going to have to start thinking about RMA'ing.
