system freezes

Hi guys
Over the past few months my 3 year old computer system has started to freeze (usually when I'm busy doing something important). Sometimes it will do it 2-3 times in a 24 hour period & then sometimes it won't. I know you might say it could be a million things, but I think it might be the hard disk. The reason being due to a program I'm using called O&O Defrag , it finds some disk errors whenever I run it. Can you tell me if this program is supposed to deal with these errors for me as there's nothing in the options that say's 'Try to fix' etc.

The only way out of this system freeze is a cold start. Think most things are up to date - Kaspersky security, Adaware, Spybot etc..

If its an old pc it could be heavily clogged up with dust and overheating, Have you checked the temps or opened the case and had a look at the fans?

It would be worth cracking the case open to have a dust out and reseat all the cables and add-in cards etc. If you have a Windows cd you can boot into the recovery console and run chkdsk which should correct any errors it finds.

If you even suspect it could be the disk about to fail you should back up your files.

Hi guys, Yeah I'll open it up in the morning and make sure nothing is loose & carefully remove any dust build up. Not been inside for ages, I imagine it'll be quite dirty. Cheers
