When my system has been on for a couple of days without a restart its gets a big laggy, I only notice it when gaming or listening to music, in COD4 about every minute I will lag but its not internet lag, and when listening to music it will distort for a second every minute. After a restart it will be ok again for a day before it starts doing it.

Any ideas? It never used to do it but I upgraded a few parts and did a fresh install.

OS is Vista 64. Spec is in my sig.

Taking a wild guess here but do you use google chrome? I found that after few days of putting the PC on standby rather than turning it off. I looked at what processes were currently running and apparently there were 10's of instances of chrome even though I had no web browser open.

Even if you don't have chrome have a look in task manager to see what processes are hogging resources.

Edit, damn, just noticed you're from Nuneaton, I grew up just round the corner in Bedworth, small world.

Memory management is a complex process, my girlfriend finds after a day of photoshopping and premier on all day she has to restart to clear down the RAM.

I do use Chrome, will keep and eye on it.

In task manager I currently have 12 instances of svchost.exe running, is that normal?

Geckovich - Most of my family come from Bedworth.

You could try rebooting, then look at the memory usage (performance tab in Task Manager). Take a screen grab, then load all your commonly used apps and take another screen (or just print them). After a couple of days and it gets 'laggy' take another. If you got memory leak problems and your free RAM is disappearing it will be shown here. Check also event viewer for anything obvious.

[You can also use Resource Monitor from TaskManager/Performance tab to log problems]

I ran CCleaner yesterday.

Ram usage was 2000mb just after boot yesterday, today its 2621mb

Processes is like this

svchost 221,500K
SearchIndexer 117,890K
Chrome 80,000K

Not really getting any lag yet, will keep monitoring it.
