system help and new gfx card

I think your cpu would bottle neck that card badly.
As you have an amd3 board you could keep that and wait for bulldozer to come out and then pick up a cheap phenom2 quad , its not the best cpu in the world but it would be a huge improvement on that dual core

I have another pc with a 720be unlocked to 4 cores but its burried deep in my loft since i moved, loft scares me as we have funny flies in there :( The easiest thing would I thought would be to buy the gtx 460.

as for res I'm playing in the native of my dgm 24" 1920*1200 I think it is, just wanted a better card than the 8800gt .

You need to tell me the motherboards maker and model number, it will be printed on it somewhere.

Not all boards support 125W CPU's

so would you think this is a good idea? then get a gfx card at a later date? thanx for your help btw

Cool, the CPU choice wont obviously change, but when you are ready for a graphics card upgrade, just look out for a GTX460/ATI 6870/5850 which ever is cheapest really.

I spoke with tech support and they said the psu should be fine, got a 600w ocz modular in the loft so most likely shove that in. I was told by sales that ocz are no longer producing memory and making psu's.

The ocz gold seems to have a bad rep with regards to errors, think by the time I'm done I couldve just built a new pc :( I'm happy I have chose the right ram atleast. (ram should be here tomorrow, running 1 stick of ocz at the mo)

thanx

Well a poor PSU (which the OCUK one is) can cause BSOD and system restarts when combined with a power hungry card.

I would have braved the loft myself with a can of raid ;)

Corsair as stulid has said is a good brand you just seem to be desperately unlucky. Im not sure of your mobos features but if you can up the CPUs multiplier by 1. This minor overclock will give you 965 performance from your 955. I wouldn't suggest going any higher on a stock heatsink. It's nice to get a lil extra grunt for free though that's the beauty of the black edition CPUs :)

Good luck with your issues any probs come back to us
