system keeps on restarting

i just moved a hard drive from an old dell that had winXP installed on it to a newer dell, but whenever i boot it does the dell loading screen beeps then asks me if i want to start windows normally last known good config etc.. so i choose last known good config and the system just restarts itself? and goes back to the dell loading screen.

any ideas?

**EDIT** ----same thing happens in safe mode with CMD or networking

I imagine its motherboard drivers conflicting with the new board. A clean install may well be required

The problem is most likely because the HAL is configured for the old PC, you can fix this by running a repair on the operating system as this will rebuild the HAL, once you get it booted again remove all old drivers and install new ones.

A clean install is the best method though to avoid any hassle.
