System Lag

Over the last week or two I've noticed more and more system lag. Lets say I pick up an image to drop into a different folder, there's a good chance my mouse pointer would skip a little as I drag the image.

Moving my pointer around I notice it sill lag a little as it moves over 'mouse over' items.

I thought it might be some kind of virus or a software problem, but I've installed a fresh OS (Win 8 Dev) and I still notice the problem.

I thought it might be a mouse issue, but then why is it mouse overs and certain things that cause the lag?

I've a nasty feeling it might be an issue with one of mt Hard Drives. I have 2 Agility 3 SSD's and a regular HDD.

Any tips for finding the cause of this?

Mouse drivers are always a problem. My Roccat Kova + drivers take a long time to settle in e.g when I change settings or just want to change the colour of the lights (like I do sometimes) it can take up to 2 minutes for it to kick in and the software to respond; even with the newest drivers/software installed.

Could also be a Windows 8 problem. It is still new in its life and isn't fully compatible with everything on the market yet e.g windows 7 when it first came out hated my XBOX 360 controller. Took me ages to sort it, after going around the net trying to figure it out!

Well, the problem originated on Win 7, so if wiping and starting fresh I thought I would try 8 (sorry, should have pointed that bit out)

The latest SetPoint drivers seem to be a couple of years old, but I've installed them. I have a G7, are there any better drivers to use?

I should plug in a regular wired mouse and see how that copes...
