System locks up.

My mates computer ( http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1888692 ) randomly locks up on him and he has to reboot, he can go a day without it happening but then the next day it could do it twice in half hour.
Im thinking could it be an unstable overclock but surely 1.328v is enough for a 3.4 OC?

It could be the overclock (voltage may not be the issue) - i would set the system back to stock and run it for a week to rule it out.

If the system becomes stable you'll know that the clock/BIOS needs tweaking or temps perhaps need monitoring etc..

I would also run memtest for a few hours to try and rule out the memory.

i agree with Plec but test the memory 1st though.

Ok cheers, also he gets black screen and it comes straight back on, says something like "kernel error / drivers not responding", his got updated drivers aswell.

Well "Kernel" could be referring to Kernel Memory. You should definitely run memtest.
