System not resuming from Sleep when CPU overclocked!

Strange one this, posted in hardware because I'm not sure it's Vista to blame. I'm running x64 and when the CPU settings are at stock, Vista goes in and out of S3 sleep willy-nilly. When however the CPU is clocked (it's a stable overclock, and I only have to change it a tiny bit) Vista won't resume from sleep. It just shows a black screen and video doesn't appear.

I have latest BIOS, chipset drivers, forceware drivers etc. Current system is C2D 2140, Gigabyte P35C-DS3R, NVidia 7600GT.

Anyone else had this?!

XP here also, not a problem mate.

Are you saying you don't have any sleep problems? I'm sure there are many like you - I'm hoping to find people that have had the problem and fixed it.

Looking around wondering if it's a NVidia driver issue. I'm using the latest ones so I don't know how I'm going to fix it if I do. I would just use shutdown but fort some reason Vista takes about five minutes to close down the PC yet is very quick to restart it. Never had this problem with the x86 version :(

Sleep is excellent (in theory) because it consumes hardly any power and gives you a usable system again about 5 seconds after pressing the power button. That's why I can be bothered to find out, but if you're too lazy then that's your business, which you should probably keep to yourself in a thread trying to discover the problem :p

When the pc doesn't out of standby it's due to the psu not providing enough power on the 5v rail. Thats why the cpu being overclocked is causing a problem.

Hmmmm interesting, that sounds like a potential cause. The PSU is an Akasa PaxPower 460W...the only thing is that the sleep braks even if I overclock very slightly.

Will go and do some more testing...

UPDATE!!

After much trouble-shooting I have discovered that the problem is related to my memory timings / clock speed.

The memory will fine boot above stock (Corsair XMS2 PC6400 @ 800 MHz stock) but will not resume from sleep when the timings are at rated i.e. 4-4-4-12 even when over-volted.

Weird, one for the Corsair forums I think!!
