Hey all, I am running a AMD 4800+ x2 still and cannot play much in the way of new games. I saw the bf3 trailer and my mouth started to drool! hahaha. Need to get my system updated as it would be a crime to play on my current system.

I only have around £470 to do whole system so I need to choose wisely.

My question is for my budget do I go i7 or amd?
I already have a case, psu, monitor, keyboard blah blah blah from the old computer so I am only looking at mobo, cpu, ram & GFX

i7

amd

I also currently have an 8800GTS 512 do I NEED to update this? if so what am I looking at to match the specs above? the £120 mark?

If you have any better suggestions then please throw them in there!

Thanks

lol... ok (can you tell I have not looked at hardware since my last build? :)

I currently have a 1tb 7200 sata but also I will be ripping the 64gb ssd outa my windows tablet.

The psu is a seasonic 600w sli ready one.

For the build I will prolly slap it up to 8gb ram (from the link you gave me) but what mobo, the default one?

Thanks

Excellent psu, so you can put lots of great new graphics cards in it such as ,

£110 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-140-OK&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1830

£139 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-252-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1866

but what mobo, the default one?

Yes.

dont forget his free shipping...

so thats £483.35 - £9.50 coming to the grand total of £473.85 for a nice upgrade and I'd count that as bang on budget

Well thanks for all the advice! :)

Cant wait to see the speed diff with my 6 year old system!!!

Just on a plus note, I came into a £900 since the orig post. Would you bother upgrading anything mentioned above or would you say what you have chosen is the right amount of bang for buck to see me a few years?

THANKS! :)

What case do you have exactly?

But you can certainly get a Gen3 board and a GTX580,

Dont go OEM for the CPU, its a quid more for retail at the moment and you get an extra 2 years warranty for a quid!

Edit: tbh I built it anyway so Ima post it:

I know more about the budget-mid range stuff than the high end so I'd trust stulid on his choice of graphics card for the megabuild.

The mobo in my spec there is the crossfire version of the one in my sig if you ever think of upgrading.. when I got mine it was about 12-13quid cheaper so made a difference overall but now its only 2quid more. Absolutely no problems with the board, overclocking has been a pleasure.

You could get cheaper ram than what I posted, theres some for 50quid saving you about 8quid

Also you'd save another tenner on shipping.

If you've just got 900quid definately get yourself an SSD in there and a better gfx card than a 460 (not that they arent great but if you can, why not!) and really feel the upgrade power!

Edit: LOL I'm sure I hit the edit button to begin with >_<

Had a few issues putting it together (bloody cpu fan was a pain in the ass) and gfx card does not work in top pci slot.

Coming from a ath 4800+ /2gb comp to this is just crazy! I have not done and OC on it yet but there is a button on the mobo that when I press overclocks the cpu from 3.3 to 4.2.... pretty neat! :)
