System Pausing

Hi,

I am typing this email from work, so sadly i am unable at this stage to go into detail about what components i have.

My problem is that my system seems to constantly pause. What i mean by this is that when playing games (this is when i notice it most), the computer will freeze for 2 seconds and then i hear (what i beleive to be) the hard drives kicking in and then the system moves on again like nothing has happened.

The problem is sporadic and has happened as often as 20 times in an hour. It can also not happen for many hours.

If it helps the games i mainly notice it on are Champ Manager 08 and CIV IV.

Can anyone please assist if this is a common problem or advise as to what more information you might need in order to assist.

many thanks

hi,

another thing that i have noticed that i forgot to mention is that sometimes the hard drives seem to be working overtime.

They can sound like they are accessing information constantly. the only thing i can compare it to is the noise the HD makes when its fragging or when you are doing a system scan.

any helpers?

HI,

I have checked the drives for errors and found none. I have also scaned for virus and found none.

Please see below for my spec.

Please note that i built this myself, but as we all know its mostly plug and play, so i really do not know to much about all of this.

If you have suggestions for me, can i please ask that you explain how i carry those out.

many thanks.

Spec:

Vista Home
Intel core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @2.40GHz
4gig mem
2xSamsung HD 380gig
NVIDIA Geforece 8800 GTS
TSST corp CD/DVDW SH-S183 ATA Device

i am not sure if thats enough information. please let me know if you require more.

thanks

I am not sure how my HD's are set up. How can i tell?

If it is the Raid set up, what do i need to look for and what do i need to do?

If its the driver set up, is it just a case of updating the HD drivers or do i need to update others?

thanks for replying.

Melbourne,

thanks for the reply. I am sorry to say that i do not know how to do what you are saying. i found the location of the menu you said, the system is automatically managered and no where does it tell how much memory is in either location. Well...... C drive says managed and D drive says none. but i do not know how to find out how much is where. are you able to explain?

Secret - the HD's are 6 months old bought from here.

THanks guys,

lee

Hi,

There is no power saving option in that menu for HD's. The only options are for sleep and turning off display and i have these both turned off at this time.

Sometimes they will work okay for a while and other times they will constantly run for ages.
