Hi

I have a gaming pc that was built by Overclockers and there are a few issues I need help with, forgive me if I am not in the right area for this post.

I have a AMD FX 4130 processor
8GB DDR3 Kingston Memory
a 128GB SSD hard drive (Samsung)
27" BenQ G-60 LCD Monitor
ASUS M5A78L-M USB3 Motherboard
Superflower 80 Plus Gold 350w psu
Sapphire Radeon R9 270X Boost OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Card

when I am running games there are thick faded white lines running up and down the monitor like interference lines and games can suffer from freezing but the freezing is only momentary.

All the info I have discovered points to the card being defective or the psu is not sufficient for the card as the R9 270X requires a 500w minimum psu to operate correctly.

I have contacted Overclockers and spoken to the tech team who advised me to post on here to see if anyone else was having these problems.

Any advice or help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Gary Nixon

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Looking at some reviews of the card with high end cpu's they pull around 267w from the mains. your system being slightly lower end will probably pull around 200w. The Superflower is a good unit and should cope fine.

Are you running the latest drivers for the card?

Hi Gary

I just ran your specs through a PSU calculator and it estimated 361w. I know these things tend to err on side of caution, but I'd guess you're probably at the high end of what your PSU can comfortably deliver. That said, I'd agree that it'd be unusual for for PSU issues to cause display artefacting.

Is anything overclocked? If so, reset it all to stock settings and see what happens. Do you have the problem in all games, or just in certain games? It's also worth checking everything is seated properly, including your display cable (both ends!).

How old is your rig? Has it just started doing this? Obviously try the driver updates, but it sounds like a long shot.

The issue you would have is running the games with high quality settings and possibly running at a lower resolution.

If your getting issues like that and are running the latest drivers (as you mentioned) then I would look at a possible faulty graphics card. Is there a possibility of testing the card in another system?

Which one did you use as most give recommended PSU rather than actual power absorbed.

hi it was bought in May/June and its always did it, I have phoned Overclockers and they assure me it is sufficient for the setup but I have always wondered about this as the specs on the box for the gfx card said 500w.

cables are seated fine and drivers are up to date, could it be the monitors size as I mentioned earlier?

Depend on how you like your games, if you like all the eye candy turned on then you would need a more powerful card, but a under powered card will not course what your getting. You would see slow downs and generally unplayable.

Can you upload some images of the issues?

Definitely sounds like the GPU, if the card was underpowered then it would show different signs, what you're seeing is artifacts/graphical issues.

Do you get these outside of games?
Size of the monitor won't matter as the resolution with be 1080p, a 21" monitor could be the same resolution as your 27" so won't make a difference.
