I recently purchased a Radeon 5970 BE, and put it in my system (see below), and started off by running a few benchmarks and games to test it.
First off, I got the official drivers (Cat 10.3), and ran Vantage. I used the default “performance” mode for comparison. My final score was 18,132, and that’s with a 3.8 Quad CPU. The GPU score was 19,843. Looking on forums and comparing, I can see that a “5870” is obtaining these scores....
So, next I ran the Dirt2 Benchmark (DX-11), and with everything maxed out @ 1920x1200. My score was “average 43 frames Minimum 38 frames. Next; Crysis. I used the Assault harbour mode in the Crysis benchmark. With the settings at “very high” and 1920z1200, I get AVG 35 FPS, Min 17 FPS, MAX 62 FPS.
I’ve compared these scores to other’s on forums (and YouTube etc) and they seem to be down by a big margin. What I’d like to know is though, ***WHY**** are my scores this low, when (in vantage) I should be getting mid 25K scores? and why is my overall “performance score” only 18K? (Seen 30K and upwards with this GFX card, with GPU nearing 30K. My CPU score in Vantage is 13896. I'm just wondering if my Low Settings in this CPU department translates into low game performance?
I don’t know what it is, but would like to see if anyone can shed some light on this.
My Pc specs are as follows:
**ASUS Striker II Formula Mobo (780i Bios 1901)**
**Quad Extreme QX9650 CPU @3.8-4GHz**
**4 GIG DDR Ram (tracer ballistics)**
**750 GIG HD (7200 RPM 32mb cache)**
**850 watt psu (Gamestream)**
**ATI 5970 Black edition **
Windows 7 64 bit and usual extras (Case is a cosmos 1000) My PC was actually one of the "ultima" series I had from overclockers just over 2 years ago. everything else works fine BTW
My 3mark 06 scores 14,878 if thats any use
My CPU score in vantage is 13,645 (i know there is no phsyx in ATI though - but still..)
