Hello !
I am currently RMAing one of my 4870x2 (long, different story
)
Whilst googling the problem I noted a few posts on various forums about quadfire performance being bottlenecked by the amount of system RAM.
One in particular:
"Be advised that such a setup would basically force you to use a 64 bit OS, since you WILL run smack into the 4GB address space limitation inherent in any 32 bit OS:
4870X2 (1GB of memory mapped I/O) times two = 2GB of address space consumed
500~750MB worth of address space required for the Bios, communications and system devices
You are now at 2.5~2.75GB of address space, and only have 1.5GB left for RAM. And it's been a year or three since 1GB was considered excellent for gaming purposes.."
I know the above refers to using a 32bit OS - But IF the above is correct then would 4GB of RAM on a 64bit OS hinder a quadfire 4870x2 set up ?
Cheers
TB
