System rebooting after 5 seconds

Hi guys/gals

I recently bought from OC as an upgrade

M/B - Gigabyte P35C-DSR3
CPU - Intel Core 2 E6850
RAM - 2Gig Corsair Ballistix 800mhz

and installed with my ATI X1950 512mb, 4x Sata hd, creative audigy 2, 500w psu

It has run fine since day one, which is around a week or so.
However last night when rebooting after upgrading the ATI drivers I get the following.

Press the power button on, case fans start, after a few seconds the cpu fan spins then stops and the whole system appears to pause for a few seconds before repeating, until I pull the plug!

I have replaced the gfx card and the psu, tried single stick of ram in both slots, removed everything and rebuilt. The problem remains.
I have no other parts that I can swap to check the m/b or cpu.

Any ideas what could be causing this please?

According to the OC support they can only issue an RMA for a faulty part. How am I to know what part is faulty? Can I not just take the m/b, ram and cpu to the counter and ask them to check? If they find for eg the m/b is faulty will it be replaced there and then, providing it is in stock?
I am asking this question as it is Sunday and I can't phone them.

Many thanks
Gray

I take it your not even reaching the Post stage to get an Error Beep Code?

Have you tried clearing the CMOS on the motherboard by changing the jumper position then changing back to run?

Hi what psu do u have?

I cant say the make/model as I am not at home at the mo but one is 450w and the other 500w and they were both highly praised in reviews etc They both work fine in the downstairs computer.

I have also cleared the cmos both by removing the battery for several mins and also shorting the pins. No I dont get any beeps, as soon as cpu fan spins it shuts down

regards

If the sytsem has become unstable after installing new drivers then this seems to be causing the problem.

Can you boot into safe mode? or is the computer restarting to fast for you to be able to do this.

If you can boot into safe, uninstal the new drivers.

Whats was wrong with the drivers for your ATI card in the first place

I upgraded to the latest ati beta drivers from the omega, which are a few versions behind.

It booted fine until it got to the Windows XP splash screen whilst booting then locked. Upon reboot after than it now doesnt even get as far as switching the monitors on to display the post.

I think its just a coincidence that this has happened now. On a few occasions 3 or 4 days ago whilst using the computer the monitors have gone into standby even though the computer was still running. It did that on 2 different xp installations (I have 4 sata drives with 3 different XP installations).

The problem now is the cpu shutting down for whatever reason within the first 5 or 6 seconds of booting

Does your motherboard have a Post LED on it? Would be a couple of digits. My IP35 does this and tells you what stage it's failing at.

tried moving and reseating all components?

i had this on my athlon xp3200 rig several years ago

id killed the cpu

as suggested id reseat all components

do you have a mate with a conroe rig that you could borrow some bits to swap and test ?
