here's one for all you self building wizz kids out there!!!

My boss asked me to merge two systems as his one's, graphic card seemed to die.

I wipped out the hard drive, dvd drive, network card and set about craming them in to the new one (so to speak)

When i turned it on it asked me for the loaction of about 11 or 12 drivers. since i don't have the windows me cd, and i could'nt get online i wrote them all down.

When i got home i promlety set about finding the drivers needed. (useing driverguide.com)

The problem i have is that now when i turn the system on it loads to windows desktop (in 16 bit depth) and then hangs making me do a forced shut down.

I tried booting in to safe mode and now i've only got 16 bit depth avaible!!
I thought that "well i'm in safe mode, i sort it when it boots normaly" BUT IT WON'T !!!!!!

please help as i'm close to fileing it in the B1N file forever!!!

thanks
tristan

You have changed the hardware for the windows install, and the 9x OS series should cope better than XP with it but obviously has not.

The easiest solution is to use a Linux Live ISO cd to recover any files you need the re-install and OS of the Windows or Linux variety onto the machine to make it work again.

Failing that, donate the system to a charity and let them sort it and give it to a good home. :)

NEVER bin anything that partially works. Its wanted somewhere! (here!)

That is true for all except ME, 98 Second edition is the most flexible 9x OS ive used, mainly for testing customer returns....

As above, take out all the extra's and start from one by one or reinstall the OS..

cheers guys,

i'll try taking out all the new hardware and try to boot to the new hard drive (me) when i get home.

also could i not just upgrade to windows xp and let windows reinstall the drivers needed?????
