just fired up Crysis 2 on my new build, PC shutdown during opening sequence (submarine)...

however have been playing Portal 2 without probs..

ram Prime95 high FPUs for approx 45 mins, full load, temps maxed out at 75C for 3 cores with the remaining core being around 66C

also ran the RTIH HDL app for GPU, maxed out everthing for 20 mins or so and no probs..

ran the above simultaneously with Prime 95 for 20 mins or so and no probs...

so its unlikely to be a h/w issues?

specs: i5 2500k, msi gen3 mobo,Kingston HyperX 16gb RAM, Lepa B series 750W 80 Plus Bronze, Radeon HD4850, 2 WD blacks 1TB (RAID 1) and 1 WD 2TB Green, plus a DB ROM, USB etc

thanks

I played Crysis 1 on my old system, not this one...however portal 2, video encoding, stress tests etc run ok on the current system;

I have had Crysis 2 on extreme settings, haven't applied high res textures... will do some more tinkering and see

ok so far I've tried lower the settings to HIGH, I've tried disabling the onboard sound, disabling anti-virus, background progs etc but it still keeps on shutting down

it now even shuts down quicker into the game if I immediately launch Crysis (after restart)

!!!

maybe my graphics card is overheating? however it is on standard clock and can handle the RTHIDL app with no probs (max settings)....wouldn't also make sense for it overheat if Crysis' min specs are for a Radeon 3850!

here's the latest log...seems to be complaining about texture mapping...not sure what remedy is... I am already using default settings..

the GPU z event log after the last system shutdown shows that idle temps (of GPU) increased from 79C to 119C (just before shutdown), while GPU memory clock increased from 750Mhz to 990.6Mhz.

GPU fan rpm was operating at a max of 9540

GPU load 100%

any ideas?

cheers

Ok, re installed crysis 2, still same shutdown prob!

Been playing portal 2 lately with no probs at all...

However, installed and fired up civilisation V today and pc automatically shutdown after about half an hour!!

Not sure what's going on as all the burn in tests have run ok including some heavy duty graphics rendering/ future mark extreme etc!

Help!

Not sure if this has anything to do with it but....according to dxdiag I have Direct X 11 installed.... According to my graphics card specs, it supports up to dx 10.1

However, according to Everest ( under summary) I am using dx 9c

So what exactly is my dx version! And could that be the problem?

OK, turns out it was my graphics cards... most probably the heat issue or could also be power because the Radeon only had one 6 pin connected for power (whereas my PCI E power cable had two 6 pin connectors available)...

The replacement card I got (MSI Geforce GTX 560Ti 2GB) has 2 sets of 6 pin connectors which are now both connected. It runs much quieter than the ATI (can't even hear it), whereas the ATI sounded like an airplane about to take off (once under load!)

can play Crysis 2 at Ultra!

Now to try the DX11 settings :D
