I think at a push ill be going to £700..

Ill be sorting out my own case, nothing special, about £30

ill be using a samsung T220 22" eventually,

does this build look decent? can anyome suggest anything to tweak, im not to sure on the graphics card would like some opinions on that!

I will be playing COD etc & newer games1

Thanks for replys!

The i5 spec listed above is very good, certainly stretch to a 5850 if you can and grab a decent cooler for whichever setup you decide on and overclock.

yea a few people have been saying overclock, but i honestly dont know a thing about it and after reading the thread "what have you destroyed from clocking" it has really put me off!

is the I5 rig just as good standard as the amd?

will the 5850 now be to much for the T220?

I'm not sure what you mean by "standard", but the i5 rig has comparable warranty, similar price and better performance (review here).

As for overclocking, I really would not worry. These modern boards have so many safety features that a bad overclock will just reset the board to defaults. If you do just a bit of reading you should be able to get the 2.66GHz i5 up to 3.5GHz with little trouble (and the cooler I specified).

The T220 is a 1680x1080 monitor, this may not be quite HD but it is still a lot of pixels to push, so a more powerful card is definitely an advantage (especially in the more graphically demanding games). Having a card like the 5850 will give you silky smooth performance in current games and last you longer than a 4890 before you will be looking to replace it to play contemporary games.

Good to hear, a bit of research will get you a lot of extra computing power :)

Btw, the updated spec looks very good.

You may not be interested in a full water cooling setup, however doesn't this fully sealed - plug'n'play Water cooling system interest you just a little :D

I understand what you mean by standard now, normally we refer to it as "stock". To answer your question, the i5 is a good chunk faster than the Phenom 2 X4 965BE (with both at stock). Check out that review I linked to earlier for full details and graphs.

haha stop tempting me you, youre a bad influence, i dunno why i think this but i just feel that water & electricial equipment just dont go together.....

waters in radiators and even though these are designed for water...you will still get a leak sooner or later...I should know im a self employed joiner/tiler etc & ive replaced so many leaking rad's its unreal!!!

Yea thanks for that link its got a lot of useful information, still plodding throught it all now,

another point to mention is that ive read a few times that AMD is more futureproof in terms of newer cpus being backwards compatable? should this influence my decision much?

Hehe, fair enuf, I guess you'd know :)

It is true that the AMD AM3 socket has got a lot of good upgrade potential, but so has the P55(socket 1156 -the i5 one). Its only just been released and expect more CPUs to be released for it in the future.

This is my current spec, think there will be much of an improvement!?

i think im going to be getting this I5 build, ill look up a few more reviews etc because i still cant work out how one cpu says 2.6ghz & another says 3.4ghz yet there similar!?!?
