System temperature 50+ degrees idle?

My computer has been like this for as long as I can remember, but I am only now querying why it might be the case - somehow my CPU temperature is often shown as lower than my system temperature? Right now for example, my CPU is at 44 degrees idle, and my system is at 51.

I have two front fans sucking air in, my HSF blowing air towards the back of the case and the case fan at the back exhausting the hot air, with the graphics card also obviously exhausting hot air.

My graphics card, idle is currently sitting at between 75-80, which is a little worrying, but the 4870X2 has always ran a bit hot.

I don't really understand what is up with it, I have not had any stability issues, thus I am not sure why I actually care, but it intrigues me, I plan to upgrade around christmas time and want to drop those temperatures by as much as possible.

CPU: i7 920 @ 4ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD5
GPU: ATI 4870X2
RAM: Kingston HyperX 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9
Case: Zalman Z-Machine GT1000
HDD: 2x 150gb Raptor X (Raid 0)
HDD2: 1x 1TB Samsung F3
Sound Card: Auzentech Prelude
PSU: Antec Truepower 650w

Specs there say I am at 4ghz, have actually taken that back to stock voltage and clock now, and the temps are still relatively similar.

I'm sure system is just the northbridge temperature, in which case, 50c is fine. If it is a case sensor, then it is clearly wrong, and again fine to ignore. If the cpu and graphics temperature under load are ok, i suspect everything else will be fine too. My northbridge always runs at 50-60c, and i think the maximum it can take is something crazy like 120c.

Alright, I have obviously mistaken my system temperature for what I thought would be air inside the case or similar, thanks for the peace of mind!
