Couldn't decide if I should stick this in Motherboard sub forum or in here, so please move if it should be there.

Got the upgrade itch at the moment having had the same cpu/mobo combo for 7+ years now

currently running a i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz on an ASUS P6T

considering going to a 6600K unsure of which Mobo to compliment it, it's been so long since I last looked at them it seems i've a lot of catching up to do on what features are must haves/nice to have.

Mobo Budget is probably around 175 max mark.

I know i'll need to grab some DDR4 too so any 16Gb suggestions will be welcome

However is my timing off now and should I be thinking of waiting for Kaby Lake?

Kaby Lake is not due for desktop till q2 17 the notebook version should be out later in the year so depends if you want to wait or not. There are some great bundles to be had so plenty of choice but all depends on what you want out of a motherboard.

Heres a taste.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £352.47
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Ah Kaby desktop is a lot further off than I thought then, thanks.

Did have a quick look at the bundles but as I say out off touch with what to be looking out for on the mother board at the moment, I guess what I'm after in a motherboard is decent overclocking potential and some decent onboard audio primarily, as such would there be any large value in going for one of the more expensive models over the ones that appear in the bundles or is something like the gigabyte G7 or Asus Hero just overkill.

Longevity is another thing that would be pretty desirable, something that can see me through a few more years would definitely be nice.

Having a motherboard with all the features and more is great if you can afford it, so go for it if you want. Most boeards will do 4.5 ghz overclock the higher end boards about 4.7 ghz,

Heres a link on the gaming 7- take a look.

AS for audio dont get a board with less than alc 1150 or alternative.

There are some good budget alternatives like the MSI Z170A-SLI Plus
