Firstly, I've not been outside of Motors since I brought the PC I currently have. Its probably 3 odd years old now.

I need some help, I'm not a big gamer but recently I've found myself wanting to play a few games. However my system struggles at 1680*1050 nowerdays.

System is currently; E6300, 4gb of ram and an ATI X1900. Would I get away with just putting a better graphics card in for the time being?

If so what would people recommend? I want to spend the least possible really. What would people suggest? I'd like a good 40fps on call of duty black ops for nice smooth game play at the above resolution with the settings at medium.

Sorry I'm so out of the loop, any advice would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Alec

Just a graphics card should be okay I think.

Something like an ATI 5770 or GTX 460 should play at max settings on that res. My 5770 handles everything max at 1080p ( excluding metro 2033, crysis etc ).

Black ops runs horrible for me on an e6400 with a 460, i think it needs a quad, but yeah i'd go with a graphics card first, 460 1gb's are great cards atm, i think the ati 5850 is going for cheap too :)

(btw what happened to that 8800 i sold you all them years ago :p)

is this the core 2 E6300 or pentium E6300 and is your E6300 running at stock speed if yes then clock it. i would say you can hit the speed without any problem
core 2 duo E6300 should hit 3Ghz
pentium E6300 should hit 3.5Ghz
4GB of run should run most games on the market. and the GFX 100% go for GTX 460

all tho as you can see in my sig i have the same set up as your and i can run black ops. have you opened and cleaned your PC in the 3 years your have had it? if not a blocked cooler can slow your system a lot some times a PC just needs cleaning after all there like big hoovers

768mb version will be fine, and a massive upgrade from what you currently have, as others have alluded to, black ops does like more than a dual core, but the gfx will make a massive difference to you anyway

Core 2, it won't clock particularly far without refusing to boot. Somewhere around the 2.4 mark IIRC. Got a nail to be honest! having said that its running at stock at the moment so I may clock it up again later on.

No to be honest. Its filthy inside. Might strip it all down at some point and clean it all out. Hopefully quieten it down a touch!

Brilliant.

Thank you all for your help :)
