Hi ya,
I'm planning on rebuilding my present pc which I built 3 years ago. It has mainly been used for gaming and playing 1080p mkv videos. The spec of the present build is as follows:
Case - Silverstone Temjin Tj06
PSU - Enermax Galaxy 1000w
CPU - Intel q9550 quad core, (Overclocked to 3.8 ghz)
Motherboard - XFX 790i ultra
Ram - Corsair Xms3 1333mhz ddr3 (4gb)
Gpu- Gigabyte 560ti as main Gpu and Asus 8800gt as dedicated Physx
Hard drives - 4 x sata drives (500gb each) and 2 x externals (1tb and 2tb)
cooling- arctic freezer pro
Hardware such as psu, case, hard drives will remain with the addition of an ssd drive for the os drive.
Due to being a poor student for the last 3 years I have only upgraded this system once which was the Gpu (gtx280 to the 560ti), and as I haven't had the money to do anything else haven't really paid much attention to the new tech available.
At the moment I'm looking at the ivy bridge 3770k for the CPU, and probably will go for this one and on the Gpu front will be going for a gtx680. However when it comes down to the motherboard, apart from being z77 I'm not overly sure, (Maybe asus sabre tooth, asus p8z77-v pro, or gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H). Ram again not overly sure but would like to go for 16gb and as fast as the CPU and motherboard will allow. Finally as my present build is Overclocked I would be looking to do the same with the new build so will need a good cooler as ivy bridge CPUs are reported to be hot little runners. Possibly could consider water cooling in the form of an all in one such as corsair h60, h80 etc. One prime consideration is that although it is primarily my gaming rig, it also serves as a media centre in the main lounge to play hd movies as well as a general use pc. The rig is hidden inside a sideboard unit where the back has been removed to allow airflow and then connected to my main 1080p HDTV and also to a 1080p monitor in the dining room. Due to this and my partner having a very low tolerance for the noise of fans spinning, keeping it as quiet as possible is important as with the present build she's always complaining about it.
Any advice or help would be appreciated
Cheers,
Jools
