Hey guys,

Looking to upgrade my system a bit and was wondering where you think I should go from what I currently have.

Not really sure on a budget not anything too crazy really. I don't really think the GPU that I am currenlty using is too bad however I feel the CPU etc may need a bit of an upgrade.

Primarly used for gaming.

Spec:

CPU: E8400 @ Stock (i know should really OC but :/)
GPU: 4870 1GB @ Stock
Motherboard: Asus P5E
RAM: 4GB

CPU cooler + overclock. :p Should get 4GHz out of that chip without too much hassle (or at least 3.7-3.8).

Something like this should be fine:

Also depending on your budget you could consider an SSD?

Already got an Artic cooler 7 on the CPU just not bothered to overclock, was looking into maybe going I5 or I7 but was wondering if they're worth it at all?

Not intrested in SSD, mate has one and the load time differences I find are minimal.

ok guys, hopefully can get a quick answer as I was planning on ordering tonight.

CPU:
Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail

RAM:
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz VALUE PLUS Dual Channel x2

Motherboard:
Asus P8P67 Intel P67

How does that look? As you can properly notice from previous posts im not too intrested in overclocking however I would like to keep the possibilty of SLI/Xfire.

Would it be worth upgrading the card to the one that is on the this week only as its £200?

Not kept up to date with any new tech so not sure if the above looks ok, also whats the whole not being able to overclock with P67 board / on board graphics? Not that its a big deal as I have graphics card and not intrested in overclocking but was wondering if that CPU is worth it in that case, as i belive the K series has the GPU part?

for gaming a 2500K cpu is just as good and a lot cheaper, and OCUK do a cpu and motherboard bundle - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-014-OP&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1858

and you got your gpu link wrong, a 5770 is a bit slow and mid to low range.

and the convenience of 8GB on two sticks - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-105-GL&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

both types of cpu have a built in gpu, which only the H67 chipset can use, the K cpu has a slightly better inbuilt gpu and also an unlocked multiplier to help overclocking.

Cheers for that didn't see that bundle sounds good (is there much of a difference between the I5 and I7?) also nice on the RAM.

my bad on the GPU meant to link this : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-194-XF

I would get a GTX480,

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-222-AS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1750

its faster than a 6950 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/309?vs=293

you can potentially flash the bios/software of a 6950 to create a 6970 - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18221844

but a GTX480 still gives a 6970 a good kicking in some of the tests - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/309?vs=292

P>S what PSU do you have SoGi?

Hmm intresting will give some thought to the GTX. I have a Corsair HX520W modular (forgot about PSU really when considering GPU i guess it would be ok though?)

is there much difference between the I5 2500k and the I7 2600K i can't see much difference looking at a few quick benchmarks.
