Evenin' All!

I bought all my components from OCUK in December time, everything went together well and the system has been running sweet.

The system is overclocked (X2 3800+ @ 2.5Ghz, G-Skill HZ PC4000 @ 200Mhz (180 divider) @ 3-3-3-7). It was prime stable (ended today) for 48 hours, the memory has been tested using Memtest, so I presume everything is OK.

However, I keep getting crashes when closing programs saying 'memory could not be written) and then everything bombing out. I am also getting more random freezing which requires a reboot.

Could this actually be a memory problem, or is it more likely that my Windows install isn't playing ball? I'm at a loss and wondered what solutions your great minds will offer.

Hey mate is it one stick of mem or two you have? if it's two run mem test on both sticks individually to see if there are any errors.

Also get the mem test that boots from a CD not the windows based one.

It's two sticks, so i'll try running the test on each one separately. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have a DFI motherboard and the memtest comes built in, I presume this one is OK to use? Sholud i download the version to run from a bootable CD instead?

Hmm not sure about the built in one, should be fine but might be an idea to try them both, upto yourself

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but i'm still having the same problem.
I have new ram which has been memtested and is fine, but every now and then i stil get an error saying the 'memory cannot be writtem'.

Any ideas?

Could be a harddisk problem, use SpeedFan to check your drives SMART status.

It can be CPU overheating, mobo overheating or harddisk.

Are there any entries in the Event Viewer that can give some more information?

I've used speedfan and it reports that the HDD is fine.
I've checked the temps and the cpu is at 32 (Big Typhoon), the chipset is at 55 and there is a third one at 50 but it doesn't say what it is...?

Also, there are warnins in the event viewer, but nothing documenting the actual error. I can't even take a screen print, as once the error shows, every program fails to load.

Have you tried the ram in different slots.
I ask as with mine the manual said put them in certain slots but i had errors. A quick switch around and all has been perfect ever since.

Have you got SMART turned on in the BIOS?

i've not checked.. then again I didn't know it existed.. what impact does this have if it's not enabled?. I'm wondering if it's contected to any of the application failures i've had recently?

What is SMART anyway, i take it it's some kind of error dectection or buffering?
