Haven't needed HW upgrades for a while so I am a bit out of touch with compatibility so please excuse me if some of the questions below are a bit dumb :)

Conroe is almost here and looks like it will be real quick so I need to put together a box which can be upgraded to that when it arrives, probaby an E660. I will then sell on the CPU currently in the box or use it for friends/relatives boxes.

After hours at various websites I still am confused if my idea will work. I was planning on getting either a 975x or 965 based motherboard. These appear to be realitvely new and asus/abit/intels details on CPU support is not giving me much confidence.

Main uses for the PC will be MMO's and Video Encoding (hence liking the look of the Conroe). I will not be overclocking the Conroe.

So far I have come up with the following :-

MSI GeForce 7300 GS 256MB DDR2 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Intel Celeron D 326 2.53GHz (LGA775) - Retail
Intel DP965LT 965 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (or Asus/Abit i965)
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit
Antec SLK3000B Midi Tower Case - No PSU
Seasonic S12 430W Silent ATX2.2 Power (may use my old 350watt fsp if that will work?)

I already have cd/hdd/peripherals etc.

Thats just what I have come up with so far, would be great to see any other ideas for an Conroe ready system.....

Thanks :)

Looks fine, but why not just skip the Celeron and pre-order your Conroe? It will be here in 22 days :)

Other than that, the rig is fine for video encoding.

Well my 9800pro bit the dust this week so it is a choice between investing pennies on an agp gfx card or a celeron cpu :D

I was also considering the D805 pentium dual core but that doesnt seem to be supported by the new boards ?

Do all the i965 boards support Celeron and Conroe ?

Whats the advantage of 975x, the only real thing I can see is ECC memory support and the fact that more places have it in stock already ?
