Morning,

Its been a while since I've upgraded my machine (years) Currently it is a

CPU: Q6700
Mobo: Biostar T45
Mem: 4gb DDR2
GC: ATI Radeon 4870
HD: WD 640GB + WD 200GB

Main uses, Photoshop editing pics from my DSLR. Sony Vegas editing upto 40 minutes of Go Pro footage at 1080p, Dreamweaver and some gaming though not latest titles.

Budget, looking at around £350 for CPU, Mobo and memory. Hard Drives already ordered a Crucial MX100 256mb SSD plus thinking of a WD Black 1TB storage drive. Graphics card unsure whats needed or if current one still OK budget £150. So any advice on the above appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hi,

How about something like this, you would see some quite drastic improvements in performance with this

YOUR BASKET
1 x ReFlex MSI Z97 - Intel Core i5 4670K @ 4.2GHz Configurable Gaming Bundle £103.03
1 x Prolimatech 48 CPU Cooler - 92mm £21.95
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX) £65.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £169.99
1 x Standard Build Laptops - Approximately 3 to 5 working days £0
Total : £370.56 (includes shipping : £8.00).

If you could stretch a bit further it may be worth going for a 4790 rather than the 4670k as you will benefit from hyper-threading which will speed up encoding times.

Hi,

If you are doing video encoding then a hyper-threaded CPU will speed that up quite a bit, however if your doing work on static images mainly then the memory would probably be the best option.

Of course both would be the perfect option, it all really depends if you want to spend any extra and what you use the pc for the most.
