System was working fine the other day, today it will not power up. I tried a different power cord, plug etc. is there anything else simple that it could be before I go ripping out the PSU?

Could it just be the front panel power switch? Is it safe to use a screwdriver to connect the two PWR headers like you can to clear CMOS?

Any other suggestions gratefully accepted. Cheers.

Could be the power switch, it wouldn't be the first time i have heard of a switch failing. Could be any number of things though tbh, PSU / MOBO / CPU.

You could try powering up the PSU on its own when you have disconnected it from the motherboard using a paperclip a la

If it powers fans drives etc chances are its ok.

Yes it is perfectly safe to short the front panel switch connections on the motherboard with a screw driver.

Paperclip trick will come in handy, hadn't heard of that before, thanks I'll try that as I've never had an issue with the PSU and think it is the least likely source of problem. Thanks.
