System will not start

Gigabyte ex58-UD5
Win7 64 bit

Windows will not start at all and it does not even show "start in safe mode"
I'm trying to start from the Win7 disc but I cannot get the keyboard to work when trying to select "boot from disc".
The keyboard works in bios but stops working when it goes to the selection screen .. any hints??

I've enabled all the usb section in bios. Can't see a separate setting for legacy though but will check again. I've tried all the usb ports both directly on the motherboard and the front of the case. Even tried a different (Microsoft) keyboard ... stil can't get it to boot from the cd

just checked and the only reference to legacy is under usb section which is already enabled. There is a "HALT" for the keyboard that says it will not boot if there is a problem. What if I selected to boot even if there is a problem? Or is that to do with the bios more than windows errors?

oh ok ... nothing to do with it then ... I'd like to know why the keyboard is not working at the precise moment when I need it to ... strange how I don't even get the windows start screen even .. all I did was start up the Nvidia control panel and everything froze .. what if I took out the video card and tried booting .. could that be the cause?

ok ... something worked ... although there were no lights on the keyboard I was able to "press any button" .. the windows repair screen came up and the screen has now gone blank ... nothing happening ... is that normal .. how long should it take for something to happen?

ummm ok the computer restarted but now I have no access to the keyboard at all ... not even in bios ... where do i go from here :eek:

ok I've cleared the cmos (button on the mobo). I tried booting from the cd and it has started windows repair. It's gone as far as the windows 7 default "dove" background and I have a mouse cursor on the screen but nothing more. The cd is still being read though. I'll leave it like this for an hour or so and see if anything else happens. Then I'll have to shut it off till tomorrow afternoon. At least there is a sign of progress.
