Hi all,

Basicly my system wont boot with an external vga card, i have tested the card in another system and it works fine, ive also tested another card and power suply in this system that wont boot, ive tried reseting the cmos, also when using just the onboard the system works fine. my specs are:

Athlon X2 7750+
2gb corsair
HD 4850
DFI 790GX-M2RS

anyone have any ideas?

cheers

I'm not familiar with your motherboard or bios ... but my first thought would be that there is a setting in the bios that enabled/disables external VGA cards?

In my old mobo i had the ability to disable the AGP port aswell as set the priority that my onboard VGA took over the external.

If you can prove your card works, then its most likely the bios disabling it or, more unlikely, not recognising it.

its default setting is PCIx there is also a setting for IGX so it should work by default, ive reset the bios more times than i can count, im completely out of ideas.

Put your known working card in the other PCI slot and test.

Make sure that there is adequate power. Make sure that power is reaching the card by testing the supply.

Are there any POST bleeps? If you do not have an internal speaker connected, then you can get one from any electrical retailer for peanuts.

Make sure you have both the 24 and 8 pin ATX power connected to the mobo

Tried all the above, board has normal beep on startup, the board has a little dislay thingy but this doesnt report ay error mesages just "FF" which is fully functional. Im using a HIS 4850, i dont have any low poered cards so the other card i tried was a 9800GX2.
