I recently bought an asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0

Put the system together, cpu is an fx8120

Initial power up resulted in fans spinning and stopping a couple of times, after fiddling with the power button connector it powered up but won't post, the CPU LED is constantly on, also the system wont turn off unless I turn it off at the PSU switch.

Anyone have an idea what this could be? Have tried booting with nothing but gpu and 1 stick of ram connected, this made no difference.

I originally had an MSI fxa gd65 board that went bang last week, I am fearing its killed my CPU.

Tried CMOS reset but this didn't work.

Have tried a dif PSU that I know works and it still wouldn't work.

Any replies appreciated, I'm totally out of ideas,

Have you tried the mem_ok button. You may have memory that ASUS in its wisdom does not recognise.
Then try the direct key button see if that allows you to go into the bios.

Otherwise it is as davedree suggests and try a cheap AM3 cpu. If that works, you can use it while you RMA the FX back to AMD or the seller.

A fully listed spec. may be useful to diagnose your system.

I've tried the mem ok button and it didn't do anything.

Took the board out today and tried booting out of the case, tried my trusty ddr3 1333, one stick in each slot and nothing.

Tried the direct key button and nothing again.

Full spec;

fx8120
sabertooth r2.0
2 x 4gb corsair vengeance 1866mhz ram
hd 7850
1 x WD sata3 hdd
OCZ 750 fatality psu

Haven't got access to an old am3 cpu so looks like I'll have to try and find a very cheap one somewhere, thanks for the replies guys, this build has been a nightmare from the word go! :(

Probably needs BIOS updating to support your current chip, only way to do that is use an older CPU,check there's no bent CPU pins too

Oh I forgot, you can pull out the BIOS chip on asus boards and plop in one that's been pre flashed with latest BIOS,should find one on fleabay
