OK... here's an interesting development. I plugged it in to my dad's TV via the HDMI and it works!! WTF??!! I am baffled... why isn't it working via the DVI on the monitor/gfx card?! The monitor works on another system, via the same DVI port with the same cable. Also, I tried his old gfx card in the new build and that also gave no signal, which would seem to rule out the DVI port on the new gfx card not working. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!

hmm very strange, can you try and change some setting while plugged in to the tv? or maybe you could get a hdmi to dvi adaptor to sort it out

its hard to think, i know when ive had problems similar to this it was resoulution problems, but you have said its a new gfx card, you could try to do a fresh install whilst connected to the tv and then try the dvi to monitor
Mmmm, turns out this is a known issue with this particular monitor, a Viewsonic VX2025. Something to do with the DVI going to sleep and not waking up. A couple of methods for getting it back again, although I've yet to try. Seems this was the issue all along anyway!!
