Hey guys,

Been having a look around to try and establish whats up with my rig but not had much luck so thought I would try you guys to see if you have any good suggestions!

Basically, I just got back from 4 days away from my flat. I had left my pc on before I left and came back to find it powered off. My flat mate has informed me that he thinks there was a power cut while I was away! I am trying to establish whether or not its my psu that has packed in, or whether it is the motherboard, or maybe something completely different.

The power switch on the back of the psu lights up blue when it is switched to the on position (see link below for psu), however the standby LED on the motherboard (or any other lights on the mobo) do not light up. I am assuming it is either the PSU or the motherboard that has packed in, but I can't be sure which one! Just because the back of the psu power switch lights up does it mean that the psu is supplying the motherboard with power? If it is, then I am guessing it will be the motherboard that has died. Anyway, maybe someone has a suggestion to confirm my fears!

PC specs are as follows:

Q6600
MSI P35 Neo2 Mainboard
FSP Blue Storm II 500W PSU http://www.fspgroup.co.uk/u.k/02_newproducts/bluestorm2.htm
4x1GB RAM
Geforce 260GTX 216

Cheers

The kettle lead feeding the psu works fine, the psu fan doesn't spin when switched on. I have also tried using a paper clip and connecting it to the green wire pin and a ground (black wire pin) of the psu motherboard connector (the long 28 pin connector) and tried turning the psu on, apparently this should start the psu up but it doesn't. So I decided to order the OCZ 600W psu that is currently on offer at ocuk. Hopefully that will sort it but we shall see!

Yeah pretty much sounds like the PSU is boned, so I personally think you made the right call with the new PSU - it's what I would have done.
