System Works Alternative???

I know a lot of people can't stand anything symantec but I have been using Norton System Works (Version 2002 at the mo and 2000 before that) for several years and have been very pleased with it.

I disable as much of the unnecessary things as possible so it doesn’t hog too many resources and I don’t find it a problem.

The things I really like about it is the speed disc defragmenter and the windows doctor that finds and fixed windows problems. As I said, I have been using these for some ears and really like their functionality.

However, my subscription has just run out and they are no longer supporting 2002 version so I’d have to upgrade to the new package which is rather costly.

Are there any better alternatives (free, cheap or otherwise) that will give me the same functionality, ie a nicely configurable disc defragmenter and something to find and fixed windows problems (and I suppose any of the other functions of System Works???

For virus scanning I have just switched to AVG’s free scanner, which seems to be widely recommended.

Thanks in advance for any help

Must admit I've never heard of that package, had a quick look, it seems pretty good, though I didn't see any mention of a disc defragmenter, is there one in this package,a nd if so can it be configured by the user?

doesn't come with a defrag

i use o&o defrag, other are perfectdisk as mentioned already and diskeeper

Perfect disc does look like and interesting piece of software, however, by the time I've paid out for that and Tuneup Utilities, I've spent about as much as upgrading to the newest version of system works and not got quite as much functionality!!!

Are there any other options out there?
