2009/2010 Acer Aspire 5738DZG
Intel Pentium T4400
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
15.6" screen
Windows 10 x64

When the laptop is turned on, a BSOD appears with SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.

It automatically restarts after around 5 seconds.

F8 does nothing.

I have booted with a Windows 10 USB flash drive and it shows Preparing automatic repair before showing the BSOD again.

Any ideas?

Sounds like CPU or RAM problems. Try...
resetting your BIOS to default, if no boot...
removing 1 stick of ram if you have 2 dims in your laptop

If you can boot into a Linux Live CD (SD) then you can run some stress tests on your CPU to see if that's starting to die.

[strike]Might be worth turning off HyperThreading if that on in your BIOS.[/strike] Don't worry, CPU doesn't have it.

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED tends to mean a command wasn't completed so nothing else can be processed, bit like dropping a ball when juggling.

EDIT:
Quick read up on the problem (I only get one with a bad overclock) it could be heat related. You can buy some compressed air in a can and clear out your CPU fan/heat sink. Not a dig but Acer tend to spend a little on things like cooling, it likely its an aluminium sink. Could use a vacuume but don't break the fan motor.
