High speed internet and bulk subscription access to media means that a large range of digital information is available for consumption. It should be noted that this has always been the case illegally but lets not discuss that in this thread.
Examples of digitisation
Movies - Lovefilm
TV Shows - Netflix, Iplayer, 4oD
Video Games - Steam, Origin (on pc anyways)
Music - Spotify , Grooveshark
Books - Kindle Store, Digital libraries, Gutenberg
I am quite interested in peoples' methods of consuming each of the above. For bulk subscription services, there is effectively an unlimited amount of information available now. So much so that efficient multi-tasking techniques would allow more to be consumed or some different to be consumed everytime.
I can imagine many people on this forum have liberally integrated the above services completely into their lives.
E.g. mycase
Wake up alarm is radio so gets news + listen to music in bed
Toilet now has tablet built in for gaming
Journey to work on the underground is taken up by gaming in on the phone, ted talks on the phone + reading kindle books + reading free magazines.
This may not apply to all but I can listen to music at work, this quietens the office down.
Gym can be mixed with music
Driving can be mixed with music
Cooking can be mixed with music
Reading in bed.
Travelling can be mixed with anything you can run on a tablet now.
I purposely built a 4 screen pc too for maximum consumption, This allows simultaneous use of these forums, BBC sports, games, work, etc.
It is interesting to note that almost every activity can be multi-tasked now.
I call each unit of digital consumption a 'slot', this can be a move, an episode of a tv shot, a chapter in a book, a magazine, an album, etc etc.
Does anyone else work this way? Efficient consumer of digital information.
PS - I don't tend to count social media as slots, as you dont get anything useful out of it, whereas those posted above are hobbies.
