Used AMD settings to update from 18.3.4 to 18.4.1 and pc would boot, load windows and then restart. Permanent loop.

Boot in Safe Mode, run AMD driver cleaner. Restart.

Reinstall 18.3.4 and the boot then restart loop begins again.

PC runs fine with default W7 GPU drivers loaded, but GPU not detected.

Is this a wierd GPU failure that happened to coincide with the driver update?

Some corrupt part of 18.4.1 left behind causing problems?

GPU is Sapphire Vega 64 which has been running just fine until today.

Try this,

Reboot in safe mode, run DDU and then reboot and install 17.11.1 drivers.

If that works, install the 18.4.1 drivers on top.

Thanks for your help.

Followed your advice, but had the same issue.

Wiped drivers again, swapped Vega for my old 290, installed the 18.2.1 drivers for the 290 and it’s running just fine.

OCUK will have an RMA shortly.

Did you recently install the Windows 10 Spring Creators Update?

There are users who've found themselves in same position as you if so iwith unending reboot. If so, it's likely not the GPU, and more likely to do with the new update.

Well, here we are again.

Card is back from OCUK with no issues found.

Booted into Safe Mode and cleared out all the AMD drivers.

Deleted C:\AMD folder.

Powered off PC and swapped out R9 290 with Vega.

Powered up okay and installed 18.5.1 (latest) drivers - didn’t get the Error 1603 this time.

Restarted and we’re back to black screen crash and reset.

If this computer didn’t hold 20 years of family photos, it would have got both barrels earlier today...

That's so damn annoying Terminal Boy.

Have you got another power supply you can test with? It's a modular power supply? So you are probably just using one lead(with two PCIe connectors) from the PSU to the card. Try using two leads from the PSU to the card, one PCIe connector from each lead. So that it spreads the load. That has worked for some people.

The only other thing I can suggest is upgrade to windows 10? A full clean install.

Agree, has to be worth doing a clean wipe and reinstall Windows.

Some knock it but after running Win 8.1 for years, I've been pretty happy with W10 for the last few months.

Sorry for long delay in response.

Have tried using 2 separate power cables to GPU - issue is still there.

This system has been running flawlessly with this card since August 2017.

Will see if I can get the PSU checked out.

Thanks again.

I had huge issues with 18.4.1.
Windows wouldn't boot at all- even via startup repair. Three complete reinstalls before I discovered what the problem was...

Stayed with 18.2.1 until 18.6.1 (I think) came out!

I’ve just tried 18.6.1

Won’t install unless I allow the ReLive feature to be installed.

When I do allow it, I’m back to having the PC lock 10-15 seconds after windows loads.

That's odd. I updated a couple of days ago. There was a 'skip' option on the ReLive installer, albeit very small, at the bottom-right of the dialog box.
Admittedly I'm on a 390X not a Vega, but the software is the same!

As a last-ditch effort, which may or may not have any effect- if you can get in to Windows by hook or by crook for long enough, get into advanced power settings and disable all and any PCIE power-saving measures (Link-state, I think it's called.).
May not help, but worth a pop. Can't make it any worse...
