Being new at all this and not having the time or patience to learn proper overclocking via the BIOS, I was looking at alternatives in the form of overclocking software. I do realise that doing it manually is better, but I've also heard good things about programs like Systool.

I'm basically looking for a program to overclock my spanking new E8400 just a tad higher. I'm not looking to take the CPU to within an ince of its life, just a bit higher than it currently is. I did spend some bucks on a decent aftermarket cooler so I doubt I will have much problems if I tweak the settings just a bit.

So, what program would you recommend? I tried Rivatuner but it wouldn't load for me. Said something about not being able to function with my GPU (ATI).

if you want it stable - you need to do it in bios

it doesnt take long to learn - once you get the hang of it its fairly easy

yep and when you hit a point where it wont complete the tests up the voltage (vcore) a little bit.
Remember to keep the RAM running under stock speed to make sure its not the RAM causing the problem...
its a little bit more complicated than that but is your only looking to OC to say 3.6-3.8 shouldnt be a problem.
Also you have to use Rivatuner 1.10 or higher to OC the new ATI cards

So my RAM (which runs at 800mhz) will also automatically increase in speed if I up the FSB? Also, when the tests don't complete, by how much should I up the volts?

yeh it will as the FSB on the board you have got is linked.
also get rivatuner 2.10 not 1.20 as stated earlier :)
upping the voltage should be done in small steps some people go for the max voltage they are happy with to start with, and when they get a stable clock back it off, read up on some of the posts on here about clocking the E8000 series CPUs, you should be able to get a decent OC on stock settings, just remember to take off of auto to stop your mobo overvolting.

Take off auto where? I see a lot of "auto".
