HELP

My single DC server keeps having the contents of the SYSVOL folder deleted. and it all points to a second DC i demoted a week ago. the FRS is still trying to replicate to and from it desipte the DCpromo going fine, and all the AD records in DC being removed, and the actual DCPROMO for the demotion succeeding.

I have recreated the entries, done authoratative restore, but the SYSVOL folder keeps being emptied.

with only having on DC do i need the FRS running.

Help, the only problem i am having is that all my polocies dissapaearing.

Checked Event logs?

Only thing I can suggest for now, is attempt to stop the FRS and if you get any problems, re-enable it on the fly. I don't see why you would need replication if the only other DC in the domain has been demoted.

Let me know how things go!

well i've just disabled the file replication service on my test server in vmware and active directory is still working. no errors even after multiple restarts and leaving it for awhile. only thing is, this is a fairly clean install and it's always been a single dc. :)

You could try using ntdsutil: metadata cleanup. That should clearup any FRS connections to decommissioned domain controllers.

So Far, Last night I set the FRS to Manual and stopped it, and created the folders for the two default policies, they did not dissapar overnight.

this morning I have made new default domain policies from here: MS Web site

fingers crossed they will stay where they are and not disappear. Now i have to hope that everything stays where it is, and I can then try and receate all the missing policies that I had.

Fingers Crossed.

Cheers

So Far, So good.

One thing is the default DC security template is wrong, and does not work. Only found that after i used it and errors came up all over the event logs.

But that is fixed, and now all is well, So Far.

Good back up last night, and hopefully a good one tonight.
