I'm looking at picking up a spanking new HTC Hero this week. T-Mobile have far and away the best deal on tarriffs, but I've heard that their signal quality is a little naff. Is this the case? Anyone know when 3 are releasing the HTC (and is their signal quality any better)? The only provider who I know to be of decent quality, and who offer the Hero, are Orange, and their prices are pretty high...

Signal round my way (Bath/Bristol) is pretty appalling tbh. I took out a hero contract on T-mobile and had to send it back the signal was that bad. Its not like I live in the middle of nowhere either, I get full O2 signal for instance
like all networks, there are a couple of blackspots.
the sponsorship of West Brom was meant to get more buyers in the birmingham area taking on t-mob contracts after a load of network upgrades. previously the area was very poor for coverage.
do a coverage check before you get the contract, that gives you some more ground to send it back should the converage actually be rubbish for you.

I've done a coverage check, and it says I should get very good signal, both at home and at work, for both 2G and 3G. I think I'll go haggle with Orange, and if I can get a similar deal at a couple of quid more I'll do that. If not, I'll go T-Mobile and will have to send it back via the distance selling regs if it's not up to scratch.
