Woke up this morning to find a nice little text from T-mobile regarding my mobile internet usage, They said I was at 80% usage of 500mb, To say I was a little surprised was an understatement as usually I dont get anywhere near 100mb over a full month!

I have installed watchdog 3g and had this running ever since I got my S2, So I know it is pretty much bang on (at least I hope), The other thing is my t-mobile month runs from the 24th-24th and there is no way I have used 400mb in just 2 days or so!! Has anybody else had this with t-mobile? I am sure they are trying it on!

It doesn't matter when your bill date is, the data usage on T-Mobile starts at the beginning of each month so you usage will reset on 1st June. I had the same problem and was advised this by them

Thanks Richie, I too was advised by them after making this thread, Also they advised me to switch off packet data when using my home wireless as this would still eat into my mobile usage!! I done this and thought I would reset watchdog 3g to go from the 1st and clear the current usage....The saga continues!!

Well at precisely 02.58 this morning, I get another text from T-mobile stating that I had now used my 500mb allowance! Now this is the genius part I had mobile internet switched off from the point of my last conversation with T-mobile over 24hrs ago!! I also checked watchdog and it showed zero usage on mobile data. I phoned T-mobile again and the girl said not to worry as I would not be charged for going over my data allowance :( :(

So there is obviously a problem that T-mobile are failing to acknowledge or is it a problem that I have created, I have also switched off background data, What else can I do??

Kind of worrying! - Make sure they don't charge you...

I got my first ever 80% text message this month.

I'm technically on an 'unlimited' data contract with 3GB fair usage policy (from before it got expensive - just over £15 a month). Probably have used over 2GB as I did a factory reset and couldn't be bothered to look up my wi-fi password before downloading apps plus maps for Navigon and every free satnav app trial going.

I thought the policy was that if you exceed the limit, you can stil browse but downloads would be disabled?

I used to be on t mobile. Their data month does indeed start from the 1st and going over your allowance doesn't incur charges. What they do is restrict high bandwidth internet during peak hours. I.e. you can't stream video but you can email/browse web pages. Outside of peak you'll have full access!

I could understand getting the text messages if I was a big time user of mobile internet, But at the very most I use about 90mb-100mb per month hence why I can`t get my head round suddenly using 500mb, Even more so when 3g/4g has been disabled so I don't use any mobile internet.

T-mobile are about as much help as a chocolate watch and don`t seem to recognise it as a problem! I have it switched off at the moment and will keep it off for the next month as I know something is not right and it must be from their end!

Do you have dropbox or similar that's backing up your photographs? Although that wouldn't explain data usage when you've turned it off. Maybe there could be a delay between exceeding the limit and texts being sent out...

Don`t use dropbox or anything like that as I don't really take many snaps, The only thing I ever do when online away from my wireless is browse the web or on the odd occasion watch a youtube vid and that is about it, What I don't get also is would watchdog 3g not show this usage if something was eating my data in the background:confused::confused:

That's not true. It goes by your billing cycle. I know this because last month I changed my direct debit date and they said it would change the date my free allowances reset.

Right... I've gone over. Hoping either my Navigon or Co-Pilot live traffic data will get through - I have a lot of driving to do tomorrow.

On duration the t-mobile FAQ on fair usage says:
The duration of this temporary change will depend on what kind of Mobile Broadband you have: if you’re on a pay monthly plan, it will last for the rest of the calendar month. And if you’re on our pay per day service, it lasts for the length of time left to run on your pass.

When your Fair Use Policy begins again, either at the start of the next calendar month (for monthly plan customers) or with your next purchase (for Pay Per Day), your data usage will be reset to 0 and your service will return to normal.

Wouldn't surprise me if the text is delayed, I had that before with an ISP, got a warning for approaching my limit but by the time the email arrived it was too late, already gone over.

Depends on how they monitor the usage, whether it has a realtime trigger or just periodic polling (same goes for notifications). May be worth checking the timestamps on the texts, were they ~24hrs apart? If so, it could have been a case of you were already over the 500MB limit by the time you switched off mobile network. Or in other words, in the between receiving the text on the 27th and you switching off the mobile network later than morning, you breached the 500mb barrier as well yet weren't notified of it by text until 02:53 on the 28th.
This may sound somewhat unfeasible, but it could have been something updating in the background without your knowledge (to shift 100MB in a few hours, possibly some sort of malware).

Do you have an online login where you can see a breakdown of usage by date?

Well, Navigon live traffic still works, despite the restriction. Good thing too, it was kept busy on my way home from Cumbria to South Yorkshire yesterday.

I stopped taking heed of the T-Mobile FUP this month, once I saw they would only limit the usage between 4pm and midnight.
Apart from a brief period where Youtube wouldn't work, I've still been fine on it, Netflix wasn't even affected.
I'll keep going until something happens, if it ever does.
I did get the browser divert to the over FUP page once, but then nothing has happened since. I never got any texts from T-Mobile though.
