I'm new to this mobile broadband malarky. I've taken the plunge to give me greater flexibility when on hols - especially the next holiday when we'll be in 8 hotels in a fortnight. And I need a decent connection as I continue to work when on hols. Sad, I know.
I opted for the t-mobile payg dongle as I will only occasionally use it in this country and their Euro add-on bundles appear better value than most.
It is also my intention, for the same reasons of flexibility, to use it with a Sitecom Wireless Mobile Router 300N. This is so that I can, if necessary, connect a laptop and two iphones - and maybe an iPad in the future. It won't have to be a 3G iPad if this bloody thing works.
Now the 3G Mobile Broadband usb dongle works a treat on my laptop.
And the Sitecom wifi router works well when connected to my lan.
But I can't get the 3G dongle to work with the Sitecom unit. I've used the setup wizard and entered what I believe to be the correct settings - and then some. But to no avail.
I did speak to some bloke on t-mobile tech who eventually came back to the phone and, in an even more unconvincing tone of voice than before, said that only contract dongles would work with mobile wifi routers. Now I believe this to be rot - I suspect he was confusing this with the fact that the t-mobile Share Dock is only provided with long term contract dongles.
The Sitecom wizard settings I'm having trouble with are:
PIN:
APN Code: general.t-mobile.uk
Phone Number: 07*********
Username:
Password:
Some sites I've visited in my research say the PIN should be blank. I've tried it blank and with the PIN on the side of the box the dongle came in.
Some sites say the Username should be 't-mobile', others say 'user' and others say leave blank.
Some sites say the Password should be 'user', others say 'tm' and others say it should be left blank.
Now that's a lot of permutations
And the garbage bin is looking more and more like an attractive option.
I there anything else I should be changing/setting?
Could some kind and clever person help me out with this?
