T-Mobile: my price plan add services?

I've just got a t-mobile sim card and have logged into my account online.

Can anyone tell me why there is a service add-on called MMS?

Surely i can send and receive MMS without having to tick that i want this add-on? Especially since the add-on (which is free) won't start for another month.

MMS is not set up on the sim when it goes out - this id due the the still FAST numbers of phones that don't support it and users that don't wist to pay for it.

Sending an MMS will set it up to receive, but iirc this option sets it up without you needing to send one first
