Hello all,

I was cursious to compare the performance of my son's Vostro 1700 equiped with T8300 (Penryn) processor running at 2.4 GHz, 3 Gb RAM under Windows Vista and my laptop, a Dell Latitude D620 sporting T2300 at 1.66 GHz and 1 Gb RAM (slower) running Windows XP SP2.

I did expect some stellar perfomance from the Vostro machine but 1 M Super Pi takes 45 sec on the Vostro and 37 sec on the Latitude.

When I downloaded the file I read that it runs under all OS except Vista. Am I right when thinking that it is the OS that causes the massive difference?

Or should I run other tests to make sure that everything with the Vostro is OK? My Athlon X2 4800 does it for 45 sec.

Thanks in advance for chipping in!

Cheers.
Paul

I have this tweaked version as i have a quad core
VIRGILIOBORGES.COM.BR
I can manage 1M in under 18secs on my clocked Kentfield @ 3.5 on Vista i like to think its correct

That is very poor results for the cpu in question... I take it all chipset drivers are installed etc, and the power options are on performance?

I feel very embarassed. The power option was on Saver mode and of course the processor was working at half of its capacity.

After changing to high performance now I get 1 M in Super Pi for exactly 20 seconds. It was not Vista, it was rather my lack of paying attention to details.

Thanks for clarifying this for me!

Cheers!

Paul
